I decided in the third grade I wanted to be a teacher. I changed my mind a couple times, but pursued a degree in Elementary Education at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. I graduated with honors in 2004. Since then I’ve worked in a variety of settings working mostly with the youngest learners.
My classroom experience includes student teacher in Cahokia, IL, working in the special school district in Belleville for children with autism, and corporate child care settings. I moved into child care management and administration in 2007. My last position was the Executive Director for a not for profit child care in St. Louis from early 2012-late 2016, almost 5 years.
I am an O’Fallon native and married Justin Phillips in 2010. We’ve always lived in the area, but moved back in town in 2015. We have one son Hunter who was born in September 2011. Other interests include cooking and prepping freezer meals, baking crazy birthday cakes, creating jewelry and crafts as well as occasional yoga and pilates.
I choose early childhood education because of the opportunity to build relationships not only with young children but the whole family. The MetroRecPlex Child Care offers safe, engaging play based learning for ages infant through school age children up to 12 years old. Even if we only care for children for a short period of time, we make a huge impact! I hope to serve a wider range of community needs by offering longer hours of care, summer camp options, and family friendly experiences. We will set exceptional levels of quality care in the recreational child care field.
