Plex Power Skate

Plex Power Skate is an action-packed, high energy instructional power skating program geared towards hockey skaters that focuses on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance in the learn to train phase of the long-term athlete development. Skills, techniques and conditioning drills are taught in a progressive format that emphasizes how the skills apply to game situations. Our focus is on developing proper skating technique and teaching the players the concepts behind the techniques so they can better understand the system. We start by slowing the players down and teaching them the correct way of skating. Then we bring the player back up to speed. The players will develop a Longer stride, use Less energy, and will be able to skate Faster!

Is geared to skaters who already have basic forward and backward skating skills (they must be able to skate the length of the rink using alternate strides) and are able to stop on command. For safety reasons participants should wear full hockey equipment. Coach to skater ratio is 1:10

Sessions Will Return Spring 2020

Q & A

What are the changes?

Plex Skate has a fresh new look on and off the ice.  Technical revisions included focus on teaching and mastering strong basic skills earlier to prepare skaters for all ice sports – hockey, and figure skating. On-ice delivery focusing on continuous movement emphasizes the use of newer and more dynamic group teaching concepts including the Fast Track, Fun Zone and station rotation all of which has been proven to increase practice opportunities and improve the rate of skill acquisition among skaters.  More visual aids and music are used to create a fun, stimulating  and welcoming environment. The new look also includes new progress report cards and an exciting new series of award ribbons to achieve, in addition to the Level 1 to 6 badges.

For skaters currently in Learn to Skate – Where does my child fit in the new program?

In light of the curriculum changes from Snowplow Sam & Basic 1 to 6 to the Level 1 to 6 badges, several skills have been shifted. It may be possible that there will be a transition period for some skaters. The Plex Skate coaches will be able to assess and place skaters in the groups best suited to their abilities and interest.
