The new year has arrived, and many people are thinking about new habits and resolutions for the new year. When you are thinking about your goals and what you want to accomplish, remember to put your health high on the priority list. Below are a few tips you can put in place to help promote your health and well-being in 2023.
1. Make Regular Exercise Part of Your Life
Engaging in regular physical activity is one of the most effective ways to support your physical and mental health. Being physically active helps our brains to function, it supports a healthy metabolism, strengthens muscles and bones, and can reduce the risk of many chronic health conditions. Commit to 30 minutes per day, five days a week in 2023.
2. Eat Right
The food you eat has a huge influence on your overall health. While everyone has their own unique needs and preferences to consider, in general, a diet that is rich in whole fruits and vegetables and low in saturated fats and refined sugar is a solid foundation. If you have concerns about your diet, a nutritionist or dietitian can help you determine what is most important to your needs. Ask your healthcare practitioner for a recommendation.
3. Get Enough Sleep Every Night
Sleep is one of the most important contributors to our health so, every single night of the week in 2023, make it a point to get seven to nine hours sleep. A helpful way to facilitate this is to practice good sleep hygiene, which is to prepare you and your home for a good night’s rest. Shut the electronics off, turn out the lights, get your jammies on, get in bed, shut your eyes, and go to sleep!
4. Stay Current With Medical Care
Are you up to date on all your health visits, checkups, exams, vaccinations, and the like? If you are due for an annual physical exam or a dental checkup, do not delay. Appointments with medical providers often have a lead time so if you do not have those visits scheduled, do it soon. And if you must find providers, set aside some time to do so. Most insurance carriers allow you to search their website for healthcare professionals in your area.
